OASIS Offering
Waiver Reform
Monday, July 9, 2007
The Indiana
Family and Social Services Administration (FSSA) is working with key
consultants, families, self advocates and providers to implement a
new way of allocating resources for people receiving home and
community based services through a Medicaid waiver that is called
OASIS.
The goal of OASIS is to have a reliable and predictable way to
allocate resources based upon the individual, where they live – at
home or with others - and what is considered best practice for
people in similar settings. It is a huge undertaking, but one that
is important.
Regular updates on OASIS can be found on the following web site:
www.davisdeshaies.com.
The OASIS project holds great promise to address the real cost of
supporting people in the community, give meaning full wages to
staff, and create new opportunities for families to design the
services and supports that they want. However, it will take the
cooperative work of many to make the goal of OASIS a meaningful and
helpful reality.
Watch The Arc web site, www.arcind.org for updated information on
what promises to be a critical and important step for Indiana.
