Innovative Roommate
Matching Service Available for
Hoosiers with Developmental Disabilities
People with developmental disabilities can now
use a new online service to find a roommate.
The service, called Roommates,
is sponsored by The Arc of Indiana.
Roommates can assist people
with developmental disabilities who are approved to receive services in a
Medicaid funded group home or residential program funded by a Medicaid
Waiver. It can also assist people with developmental disabilities who do
not receive government assisted residential supports, but need housing or a
roommate to help share in costs.
To use Roommates,
go to
www.thearclink.org
and click on
Roommates. There is no cost for the service.
Roommates
is designed to match people with developmental disabilities with the
best possible living arrangement a
and supports.
Residential providers can list vacancies, and
information about the types of accommodations they can
support, the neighborhood, special interests of other housemates, and other
details about the vacancy.
People with developmental disabilities, or their case managers, family members or advocates, can create a listing with the zip code area where they want to live, accommodations and supports they need, special interests, and other considerations.
A powerful search function can find a match
based on any information in the listing.
Listings do not contain personal details like names and street addresses.
Roommates is a service of TheArcLink Incorporated, a national nonprofit organization that provides information and resources to people with disabilities and their families. For more information, or to schedule a free online tour, email: roommates@thearclink.org
