Family and Caregiver Training Program

Indiana's Medicaid Waiver program provides that up to $2,000 per year can be included in a Medicaid waiver consumer's Individual Support Plan (ISP) for Family and Caregiver Training.

Family and Caregiver Training can provide training and education to parents, other family members or another primary caregiver. Examples include training to meet specific care needs, how to use a Medicaid waiver budget or how to develop an individualized support plan. It can include funding for family counseling or funding to attend workshops or conferences that will provide information to help families and caregivers better meet the needs of their loved one.

Family and Caregiver Training has not been widely used because of the bureaucracy of planning for this service when the ISP is being developed.

The Arc of Indiana hopes to make this service easier to use through our Family and Caregiver Training Program.

The Arc's Family and Caregiver Training Program will allow The Arc to arrange for approved Family and Caregiver Training, bill Medicaid for the cost, and pay the provider when The Arc has received reimbursement from Medicaid.

Watch for more information soon! We hope to launch the Family and Caregiver Training Program in the Fall of 2009.
