Dear (Name),

My name is ______ and I am a person with a disability/a family member of
someone with a disability. I am very concerned about the Medicaid changes taking place
that are going to significantly impact my/my child’s/my [family member’s] quality of life.
[Tell your story in 4-5 sentences. What services do you use? Are you impacted by the
proposed changes in ABA Therapy, Recreation Therapy, Music Therapy, or Behavior
Management?]

As Congress and the Statehouse have been discussing Medicaid over the last few months,
it has been shared by many lawmakers that people with intellectual and developmental
disabilities were not going to be impacted – and I must tell you, that is simply not true.
The federal government’s move to redetermine eligibility every six months is going to cause
hardship for me and my family. Mail is no longer dependable, and paperwork routinely gets
lost and filed incorrectly. People may inadvertently lose coverage.

The federal government changing how a state can utilize provider taxes will also reduce the
amount of money the state has available for Medicaid services, jeopardizing many optional
but vital programs, like home and community-based services (HCBS) waivers that provide
opportunities for independence and a good life. At the state level, limits are being proposed
for Applied Behavior Analysis, Recreation Therapy, Music Therapy and Behavior
Management.

People with disabilities are being impacted by the changes and more harmful changes are
expected. I am asking you to stand up for Indiana’s most vulnerable population.
Please reach out to learn more about how I/my family depend on Medicaid and how our
lives will be negatively impacted by changes.

Thank you.
