Celebrating Achievement – Mark Hublar

Throughout Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month we celebrate the achievements of people impacted by a developmental disability.

Meet Mark Hublar, who shares his story and achievements as a public speaker, “My name is Mark Hublar and I have Down syndrome. During my life I have worked, earned a living, graduated from college, lived on my own, and now own my own business. My parents and my family have supported my efforts and encouraged me along the way to be all that I can be.

“Today, I am a motivational speaker and an advocate for people with disabilities. My message is simple: give people with disabilities a chance. A chance to grow, to work and make a living, and a chance to live a life that is full and happy.

“When people ask me why I wanted to be a motivational speaker the answer is – I have something to say! I grew up in a home that loved me, supported and encouraged me, and I want others to know that kind of life is possible. I want them to know that they can accomplish things no matter what limits they may have if they can just think on what they CAN do rather than what they can’t do. I’m living proof!

“I have a purpose. That purpose is to encourage moms and dads that have a child with a disability and individuals with a disability and to advocate for job opportunities to open up in the work place for people with disabilities.”

Mark has worked with The Arc of Indiana’s Career Counseling Information and Referral program, presenting information to people with developmental disabilities on transitioning from sheltered work to community employment. He currently is a team leader for Indiana’s Work To Include initiative.
