New Leadership Training for People with IDD Launched

It was an exciting four days, August 15-18, 2022 as The Arc of Indiana and Self-Advocates of Indiana launched a new leadership training program, made possible by the Governor’s Council for People with Disabilities and support from the National Leadership Consortium on Developmental Disabilities.

The training grew out of the knowledge that while we are fortunate to have a state administration and organizations that seeks out and respects the voice of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD) and readily invites them “to the table,” people with IDD do not always have the opportunity to engage “at the table.”

The four-day event provided leadership training to 22 self-advocates from around the state with the goal of putting their learning and lived experience into practice.

As SAI says, “Nothing about us without us.” We look forward to the representation this new group of leaders will bring to the table.
