The Arc of Indiana is seeking a Controller to join The Arc of Indiana team.

The Arc of Indiana is a statewide, not-for-profit association that advocates for people with intellectual and other developmental disabilities and their families.

Job Summary

The Controller reports to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) and is responsible for overseeing day-to-day finance functions and ensuring accurate recordkeeping. This position manages the general ledger, prepares reconciliations, and supports timely financial reporting. The Controller will work closely with the Accounting Manager, as well as provide essential support to the Trust Department through monthly reconciliation of The Arc Master Trust Accounts.

Duties and Responsibilities

Financial Reporting and Month End

  • Manage the monthly close process, including posting transactions and journal entries.
  • Prepare and review account reconciliations (including high volume trust bank and investment accounts).
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure accurate reporting.
  • Manage billing for Erskine Green Training Institute student tuition.
  • Serve as backup for daily transaction processing (e.g., trust disbursements, invoicing, deposits).
  • Assist the CFO with schedules for audits and support tax filings, (including 1099s, Form 990, property tax submissions, and lobbying reports).
  • Perform special projects as assigned.

Grant and Donor Compliance

  • Monitor and prepare financial reports and claims for grants, ensuring compliance with individual grant agreements.
  • Compile, research, and analyze expenditure data for reporting purposes.

Trust Support

  • Conduct internal audits of trust transactions and documentation.
  • Work with the Trust Department to properly record unusual or complex transactions.
  • Ensure timely intra-account transfers.
  • Reconcile invested trust transactions to verify proper posting in trust software.

Payroll/Benefits

  • Administer and process bi-weekly payroll.
  • Collaborate with CFO to ensure accurate benefits and deductions.

Qualifications/Skills

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and Excel; working knowledge of accounting software (Sage Intacct preferred) and payroll systems.
  • 1099 experience required.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in accounting; non-profit accounting experience a plus.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and planning skills; high attention to detail and deadlines.
  • High level of professionalism; approachable with strong collaboration skills
