Who Can be Paid for What Medicaid Waiver Service – Effective August 1, 2026

Effective August 1, 2026, some Medicaid Waiver regulations will change, including who can be a paid caregiver for certain services across Indiana’s waivers. The changes vary based on the service, the age of the individual receiving services, and the relationship between the individual and the paid caregiver.

We recognize these changes are very confusing. We have put together a chart for each waiver, as well as a document that includes information for all waivers, noting who can be paid for which service.

Notably, there is a big reduction in the services a legal guardian of an adult or a relative can now be paid for.

We strongly encourage you to carefully review these changes and share them with your casemanger and provider agencies.

If you have questions, please call The Arc of Indiana at 317-977-2375 and ask to speak with a family advocate or send us this “Contact Us” form.
